How To Pick A Durable Shutter In Chicago

August 08, 2016

A few weeks ago, a previous customer contacted one of our stores in Texas. The customer had their home destroyed by a twister earlier this year, but the home’s Sunburst Polywood® plantation shutters survived.

The customer’s home required a complete rebuild after the storm, but there were just a small number of slats damaged on a single shutter panel on one area of their residence. No other shutter was even dinged! The clients are now rebuilding their home, and once they finish, the Sunburst store in Texas will revisit the home to install the very same shutters they purchased in their newly rebuilt house.

Most likely, your shutters won’t go through a twister. But there are a number of things to make sure of when choosing shutters in Chicago that are durable and will look beautiful for a lifetime.

*Disclaimer: Sunburst Shutters doesn’t guarantee that their our products will withstand a tornado or other natural disasters, but this is a good example of the durability and resilience of our Polywood shutters. Refer to our lifetime warranty.

Solid Material

The number one quality to be on the lookout for when you want a durable window treatment is the material it’s built from and the manner in which it’s built. For wood shutters, look for ones made from wood that’s strong and resistant to warping. Both high-grade teak and basswood (the types of woods our Ovation® shutters are built with) meet this criteria.

When looking into faux wood shutters, focus on a product built from a solid polymer like our Polywood® shutters. Polywood shutters are sturdier than composite shutters, which tend to peel and chip easier due to their interior structure. Polywood shutters are also resistant to fire, moisture, and termites.

High Quality Construction

The structure of a shutter has a key role in its sturdiness over time. The slats of Polywood shutters are kept tight by tension control pins. Epoxy-coated stainless steel staples give added protection. Polywood’s core is solid, and its joints are fortified and glued , resulting in spectacular sturdiness. Sunburst’s Ovation shutters are the only five star wood shutter in the world and are made with two different styles of joints: dowel joints and mortise and tenon joints, which adds sturdiness. We are the only company that can give you shutters constructed with extreme durability in mind.

Sunburst Shutters ensures that we take the utmost consideration in the measuring, manufacturing, and installation processes to make sure you get elegant custom shutters that match your windows without a hitch.

Color That Keeps

It’s normal to want shutters that will be just as beautiful decades after installation. Other composite shutters may discolor or fade over time. Our Polywood shutters are coated with a protective seal that uses UV-inhibitors so your shutters won’t fade or yellow. In addition, a quick wipe down with a dustrag is all that’s necessary to keep your plantation shutters clean.

Protective Warranty

Warranties are one more key component when choosing shutters and window coverings. When you’re in the market for a high-quality shutter, you need a warranty to guarantee your investment. Our Polywood shutters include a lifetime warranty that protect you from any defects in materials, workmanship, paint finish, or installation. Our Ovation shutters are protected by a warranty which protects you from any defects.
